Today’s profiled progger is Nicola who originally joined the online coaching group in January 2013 and is about start her 4th round of the programme.
For all the career success that 34-year-old Nicola had achieved, she still felt unhappy, unhealthy and was losing confidence in her appearance. She decided it was time to down to the business of improving her health, shedding fat and sculpting a body she’d proud of. After seeing the results of previous participants posted online, Nicola got in touch about The Fat Burn Revolution online coaching programme. Read on to find out what happened next…
How were you feeling when you started the programme?
I’d almost admitted defeat, given all my old size 10 clothes away and thought that that was it, I’d left it too late to do anything about and I’d kind of justified it by telling myself I was just really busy with work, average size (14) and pretty much OK as I was. But It wasn’t just weight; I was tired, sluggish and getting Ill all the time. I had a Bupa medical and was told that I was over the red line of being overweight, my belly was too big (well, more technically my waist to hip ratio was), my body fat % was too high and put me at risk of diabetes…so I wasn’t really OK as I was.
What had you be doing/eating too much or not enough of that led you to gain fat?
Diet was poor, lots of ready meals – exercise levels were low, maybe a bit of running but not much more than that. I think it happened over the course of 3-4 years, lots of changes at work, a busy stressful job, lots of time commuting and studying for an MBA in my spare time – something had to give, but it was me looking after myself – it just crept on.
What aspects of the online coaching helped you the most?
Definitely keeping a journal. Logging food and exercise makes you feel more accountable especially knowing that someone was checking up on you every so often. Being a group was important too, it’s nice to celebrate others progress with them, but also, if you know everyone else has done the day’s workout and you haven’t yet you’re more inclined to get your arse in gear.
What has changed about you between now and when you first started the programme?
My body has changed beyond anything I could have expected! I’ve gone from a size 14 to a size 8, but my shape has completely changed too. People who haven’t seen me for a while do a double take! I’ve never been this fit before even when I was marathon training. I am so much stronger – I’ve really got into the heavier weights too – even deadlifting, which I never would have imagined myself doing. My diet is much healthier (but know I can relax when I want without having some massive guilt trip).
Being fit and healthy has become part of everyday life for me now, I barely have to think about the diet side. Exercise I think I’ll always have to make a conscious effort to do and not get lazy, but you do miss it when you take time out. You miss the buzz you get after a really good workout session.
What’s your favourite TFBR-friendly meal?
Scrambled eggs with spinach, feta, chillies and tomato
What are your top tips for people who are in a similar position to where you were before you started the programme?
- Follow it, do exactly what is says – don’t skip, or mess around or think you know better – follow it and it will work
- Give it a bit of time – I saw my most marked results after 2 rounds of tfbr – it took a long time to get into that state so it’s gonna take time to get back out
- Mostly mostly – it’s fine to have a treat – don’t make it come with a guilt trip
- Lift heavy
